Once the Occupational Risk Assessments of various Public Sanitation and Treatment Systems were carried out and in compliance with them, it was established the need to place handholds to allow a safe ascent and descent to the first manhole steps in wells or inspection chambers to carry out tasks of maintenance and operation of the Sanitation and Water Treatment Systems.
More than twenty locations, including Sewer Pumping Stations (SPS), Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP) and Spillways, had their security drastically increased in many accesses.
By agreement with the Principality of Asturias, the Water Consortium manages the operation and maintenance of several sewage systems whose works have been carried out by the Northern Hydrographic Confederation and the Principality itself. Currently, the Asturias Water Consortium manages 35 Sewerage Systems that include the following facilities:
- 32 Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP)
- 183 Sewage Pumping Stations (SPS)
- More than 246 facilities for various uses (spillways, galleries, etc.)
- 499 km of pipelines (collectors and interceptors)
Since 2017, the Asturias Water Consortium through various operating companies such as the Society of Services of the Principality of Asturias (SERPA SA), FCC AQUALIA or the Agrarian Transformation Company (TRAGSA), have acquired multiple handholds improving the security in some WWTPs such as Las Caldas, Navia-Coaña, Ria del Eo, Maqua, Arenas de Cabrales or El Grado.
Thanks to IVERNA’s multipurpose entry pole, companies achieve the compliance with the Law on Prevention of Occupational Risks RD 486/1997, which declares: “When the passage from the final section of a fixed ladder to the surface to which you want to access involves a risk of fall due to lack of support, the railing or side of the ladder will be extended at least 1 meter above the last manhole step or alternative measures will be taken to provide equivalent safety.
ASIDERO INOX POLIVALENTE PARA ACCESO A POZOS
Accessing confined spaces, vertical walls or narrow places where the manhole steps are not clearly seen and also there is no external support point, can be really dangerous.
IVERNA’s versatile stainless steel handle consisting of a foldable telescopic bar that protrudes more than 1 meter above the access ladder, allowing a much safer entrance and more comfortable grip. This specific product was selected with the award for technical innovation at the SMAGUA 2017 International Water Trade Fair.
