However, it was not until 2019, when the product was presented to the general public at the SMAGUA 2019 Trade Fair, being an outstanding success. The Zaragoza Fair decided to reward IVERNA for its SUGARPOD filters with the Technical Novelty Award for its great innovation in deodorization in the field of urban sanitation.
This product has already aroused the interest of many water companies in Spain, Greece, Turkey and Latin America. Today we wanted to highlight the case of the Municipal Water Company of Malaga (EMASA) that has recently installed several anti-odor filters in its streets.
Neighbors and merchants in neighborhoods such as Bailén-Miraflores, Huelin or El Palo had been denouncing a penetrating smell that emanated from the sewer system for several years, especially after times of heavy rain. Some sources indicated that the reason is in a sewerage network that is not sized to evacuate the flow that comes with pouring rain in the oldest areas of the capital, where sewage and stormwater share the same pipes. Consequently, the rain drives all the flow that is in the sewage and the bad odor emanates to the streets.
The main function of SUGARPOD is to neutralize the negative effects of odors from urban sanitation.
This filter is in a circular version to install under the manhole covers and in the chimney version for septic tanks, pumping stations, controlled landfills … In this case, 11 active carbon filters have been installed in key points of the city. Many of them customized in measures for perfect adaptation to the manhole diameter so that the filter remains completely tight and the gases and bad odors flow through the filter chamber neutralizing the smell.
Some of the main features of the SUGARPOD activated carbon filter:
- Safe, fast and easy installation and maintenance device.
- The device neutralizes odors immediately after being installed.
- Carbon-based material is converted to activated carbon by thermal decomposition using a controlled atmosphere and heat.
- The resulting product has a large surface area per unit volume, and a network of microscopic pores where absorption takes place.
The previous video shows how easy the maintenance team of EMASA installs one of the SUGARPOD filters in a manhole. It is possible to install it in less than 1 minute without using special tools. The device consists of a PEHD chamber filter with an active carbon bag inside that performs the filtering power. Its stainless-steel brackets and rubber gasket allow a tight, fast and simple installation.
